Young doctor Gina Panzella works for the brilliant plastic surgeon Dr. Duncan Lathram, who is hailed as the savior of Washington's biggest power players due to his revolutionary dissolving implant that allows incisions to heal without scarring. Though she respects him deeply, Gina grows suspicious of Lathram when she can't reconcile several mysteries: his shift from vital vascular surgery to more profitable plastic surgery, his refusal to accept medical insurance, his bitter tirades against a new congressional medical ethics committee, and his connection to two committee members who died in accidents after he operated on them.
