The Armies of Daylight (Darwath, No. 3)

This is the third and final book in Barbara Hambly's epic Darwath Trilogy. Since the return of the Dark Ones, the world has been devastated, with cities destroyed, wizards slaughtered, and the people scattered in terror. The story follows two ordinary Californians, Rudy and Gil, who were stranded across the Void in this magical world and took up the defense of its people. Gil has mastered the ways of war, while Rudy has discovered he possesses the powers of a great wizard. In a final, desperate move, the master wizard Ingold devises a spell to shield the user from the Dark's deadly stare. With this new advantage, Rudy, Gil, and the remaining survivors of mankind prepare to take the offensive in a final confrontation to end the terrible war, for better or for worse.
