Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is on the hunt for her latest FTA (Failure to Appear), semi-retired mobster Eddie DeChooch, who skipped bail after being caught trafficking contraband cigarettes in Trenton, New Jersey. The simple task quickly turns deadly when Stephanie discovers a bullet-riddled corpse in DeChooch's shed and two of her former high school classmates, 'Mooner' Dunphy and Dougie 'The Dealer' Kruper, who were inadvertently involved in DeChooch's operation, suddenly vanish. Desperate for assistance, Stephanie asks master bounty hunter Ranger for help. He agrees, but his price is 'one night with Stephanie, dusk to dawn.' Adding to the chaos, Stephanie's boyfriend, vice cop Joe Morelli, is proposing marriage, while her sister, Valerie, and her two children have moved back home.
