Piece by Piece The Story of Nisrin's Hijab

Set in 2002 Oregon, this poignant graphic novel follows thirteen-year-old Nisrin, a Bangladeshi-American girl who is recovering from a traumatic hate crime. During her summer of healing, Nisrin decides she wants to start wearing the hijab as a way to reclaim her identity and connect with her heritage. However, her decision is met with unexpected resistance from her mother and grandmother, who are haunted by their own traumatic experiences during the Bangladesh Liberation War and fear that the headscarf will make Nisrin a target. As Nisrin navigates the challenges of starting eighth grade, she must bridge the generational gap within her family and find the strength to define her faith and herself on her own terms.
