Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped from custody, seven years since FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling interviewed him in a maximum-security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is now at large in Florence, Italy, living under an assumed identity and savoring the finer things in life. However, his past is catching up with him. Mason Verger, a wealthy and hideously disfigured victim of the doctor's earlier horrific whims, remains obsessed with revenge. From his respirator, Verger monitors a worldwide web of influence, planning to use Clarice Starling as the ultimate bait to lure Lecter out of hiding.
