Never Let Me Go

Set in a dystopian, alternate England, the novel is narrated by Kathy H., who reflects on her childhood at Hailsham, an outwardly idyllic and secluded boarding school. Along with her close friends, Ruth and Tommy, she and the other students are sheltered and trained in the arts, but they are also subtly prepared for their true, unsettling purpose. As they grow up and leave the school, they discover the dark truth: they are clones, raised solely to become "donors" whose vital organs will be harvested in a state-sanctioned program until they "complete," a euphemism for death. The novel follows their lives, loves, and quiet struggle to come to terms with their predetermined fate, serving as a poignant meditation on the nature of humanity, memory, and the inevitability of loss.
