Eleven-year-old Isabella is constantly switching lives every week following her parents' divorce; one week she is with her Black father and his new family in their upscale home, and the next she is with her white mother and her boyfriend in a smaller house. This split forces her to juggle two homes, two nicknames (Isabella and Izzy), and two seemingly different identities, making her feel pulled between two worlds. As a biracial girl, she grapples with questions about her identity and race, constantly facing comments like, 'But what are you really?' The conflict is intensified by her parents' escalating fights and their new engagements. Isabella's struggle to find a sense of belonging and feel 'whole' is brought to a head when she and her soon-to-be stepbrother, Darren, have a traumatic and life-altering encounter with the police.
