Larry McMurtry

Larry Jeff McMurtry (June 3, 1936 – March 25, 2021) was an American novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and bookseller whose work largely chronicled the American West and contemporary Texas. He published more than forty books across fiction and non‑fiction, won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Lonesome Dove, and co‑wrote the Academy Award–winning screenplay adaptation of Brokeback Mountain. McMurtry also ran a prominent antiquarian bookstore and was a major figure in late 20th‑century American letters.
