Michael Shaara

Michael Shaara (June 23, 1928 – May 5, 1988) was an American novelist best known for The Killer Angels, a historical novel about the Battle of Gettysburg that won the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Shaara began publishing science fiction and short stories in the 1950s, later writing novels spanning historical fiction, sports fiction, and speculative works. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, graduated from Rutgers University, and taught literature at Florida State University. His son, Jeffrey Shaara, also became a noted historical novelist.
