Rodney William Whitaker (1931–2005), who wrote under the pen name Trevanian, was an American novelist and film scholar known for bestselling, genre-spanning thrillers such as The Eiger Sanction and Shibumi. A reclusive author and former university professor, he published novels, short stories and nonfiction, occasionally under other pseudonyms (e.g., Nicholas Seare, Beñat Le Cagot).
