Michelle Spring (born Michelle Stanworth in 1947 or 1951) is a Canadian sociologist and mystery fiction writer. She is known for her Laura Principal series, featuring a private investigator in Cambridge, England. Spring's work often blends psychological depth with social commentary, addressing issues like gender inequality. Before becoming a novelist, she was a professor of sociology at Anglia Ruskin University and lectured at Cambridge University. Her writing career was partly inspired by a personal experience with a stalker. She has also published academic works under her birth name, Michelle Stanworth.
