Dashka Slater
Dashka Slater is a New York Times bestselling author and award-winning journalist whose work spans children's literature, young adult nonfiction, and adult fiction. She is known for her ability to tackle complex and timely themes with nuance and empathy, often focusing on issues of justice, identity, and responsibility. Slater's writing has been translated into more than fifteen languages and has received numerous accolades, including the Stonewall Book Award, the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize, and the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Award. She is also a recipient of a Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Slater has written over fifteen books for children, teenagers, and adults, including the popular Escargot picture book series, the Feylawn Chronicles middle grade fantasy series, and the acclaimed true crime narratives "The 57 Bus" and "Accountable." Her work has been taught in schools on six continents and has sold over a million copies. Slater is also an adjunct professor and teaches in the MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program at Hamline University.
