Janet Lunn

Janet Lunn was a Canadian children's writer known for her historically rich novels and non-fiction. Born in Dallas, Texas, she moved to Canada in 1946 and became a Canadian citizen in 1963. She published her first children's book, 'Double Spell,' in 1968 and went on to write 18 books for young readers. Her notable works include 'The Root Cellar,' 'Shadow in Hawthorn Bay,' and 'The Hollow Tree,' which won the Governor General's Literary Award for Children's Literature in 1998. Lunn also co-authored 'The Story of Canada' with Christopher Moore. She was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario, and served as the chair of the Writers' Union of Canada. She passed away in 2017 at the age of 88.
