Margaret Truman was an American writer, singer, and journalist, and the only child of President Harry S. Truman and First Lady Bess Truman. She was known for her biographies of her parents and her popular series of mystery novels, 'Capital Crimes,' which were set in Washington, D.C.. Truman also had a career as a classical soprano, performing with orchestras and on radio and television before turning to writing in the 1950s. Her writing career began with her autobiography, 'Souvenir: Margaret Truman's Own Story' (1956), followed by several nonfiction works and then her successful mystery series.
