Leila Mottley is an American novelist and poet, born in 2002 and raised in Oakland, California. She gained national recognition as the 2018 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate. Her debut novel, Nightcrawling, was a New York Times bestseller, an Oprah's Book Club pick, and was longlisted for the Booker Prize, making her the youngest author ever nominated for the award.
