Ayana Mathis

Ayana Mathis is an American author and educator. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and was the first Black woman to serve as a permanent faculty member in that program. She has taught at various institutions, including Columbia University, Rutgers, and Hunter College. Her debut novel, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, was a New York Times bestseller and an Oprah's Book Club 2.0 selection. Her second novel, The Unsettled, was published in 2023.
