Christopher Isherwood (1904–1986) was a prominent British-American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and diarist. Best known for his semi-autobiographical works set in 1930s Berlin, such as 'Goodbye to Berlin' (which inspired the musical 'Cabaret'), he was a significant figure in 20th-century literature and the gay liberation movement. After moving to the United States in 1939 and becoming a citizen in 1946, he settled in California, where he explored themes of identity, spirituality, and homosexuality in acclaimed works like 'A Single Man'.
