Tanya Talaga

Tanya Talaga is an acclaimed Canadian journalist, author, and filmmaker of Anishinaabe and Polish descent. A member of the Fort William First Nation, she spent over twenty years as a journalist at the Toronto Star, covering Indigenous affairs, health, and education. She is the founder of Makwa Creative, a production company focused on amplifying Indigenous voices. Talaga is known for her powerful, award-winning non-fiction works that explore the history and ongoing impacts of colonialism, residential schools, and systemic racism on Indigenous peoples in Canada and globally.
