Breena Clarke

Breena Clarke is an American novelist and scholar known for her historical fiction, which often explores the lives of African American communities in the mid-Atlantic region. Her debut novel, River, Cross My Heart (1999), was an Oprah's Book Club selection and a New York Times bestseller. She is a co-founder of the Hobart Festival of Women Writers and has served on the fiction faculty of the Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Southern Maine.
