William Kurelek

William Kurelek (1927–1977) was a prominent Canadian artist and writer known for his detailed, narrative paintings that often explored his Ukrainian-Canadian heritage, his childhood on the Canadian prairies, his struggles with mental illness, and his devout Roman Catholic faith. He was also a prolific illustrator and author of children's books, many of which have become Canadian classics.
