Madeleine Sophie Wickham (née Townley), better known by her maiden name Madeleine Wickham and her pen name Sophie Kinsella, was a bestselling British author. Born in London, she studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at New College, Oxford, and later earned a postgraduate qualification in music analysis from King's College London. She began her career as a financial journalist before publishing her first novel, 'The Tennis Party', in 1995. Under her real name, she wrote seven novels, which are described as more serious and darker ensemble pieces exploring adult issues. She later achieved international fame with her 'Shopaholic' series and other romantic comedy novels under the pseudonym Sophie Kinsella. Her books have sold over 50 million copies worldwide and several have been adapted into films and musicals.
