Jane Rule
Jane Vance Rule was a prominent Canadian-American novelist, essayist, and activist known for her pioneering contributions to lesbian literature. Born in New Jersey, she moved to Canada in the 1950s, where she taught at the University of British Columbia and became a significant voice in Canadian letters. Her groundbreaking first novel, Desert of the Heart (1964), was one of the first to portray a same-sex relationship with a happy ending and was later adapted into the iconic film Desert Hearts.
