Scott Westerfeld

Scott Westerfeld is an American author known for his young adult science fiction and fantasy novels. He is the author of the bestselling Uglies series and the illustrated steampunk Leviathan trilogy. Westerfeld studied philosophy at Vassar College and began his career writing adult science fiction before shifting to young adult fiction in the early 2000s. His breakout YA novel, Uglies (2005), launched a series that explores themes of identity, conformity, and technology in a dystopian society. He has also written the Midnighters trilogy, Peeps, The Last Days, So Yesterday, and Afterworlds. In the graphic novel space, he created Spill Zone and its sequel. His works have been recognized by the American Library Association, the New York Times, and various literary awards in the United States and Australia.
