Kathryn Stockett is an American novelist best known for her 2009 debut novel, The Help, which explores the lives of African American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s. Born and raised in Jackson, she graduated from the University of Alabama and spent several years working in magazine publishing and marketing in New York City before achieving widespread success as an author.
