Janice Y. K. Lee is a Hong Kong–born American novelist best known for her bestselling debut The Piano Teacher (2009) and her 2016 novel The Expatriates. Born to Korean parents and raised in Hong Kong, she moved to the United States for schooling, earned a degree from Harvard College and an MFA from Hunter College, and worked as an editor for magazines including Elle and Mirabella before publishing fiction. Her work often explores identity, expatriate life, love, and historical settings in and around Hong Kong.
