Solomon Northup

Solomon Northup was a free-born African American farmer and musician from New York who was kidnapped in 1841 and sold into slavery in Louisiana. He endured twelve years of enslavement before regaining his freedom in 1853. Following his rescue, he published his memoir, 'Twelve Years a Slave', which became a significant abolitionist text and historical document.
