Christopher D'Olier Reeve was an American actor, director, author, and activist, best known for his iconic portrayal of Superman in the 1978 film and its sequels. In 1995, he became a quadriplegic following a horseback riding accident, after which he became a prominent advocate for spinal cord injury research and disability rights.
