Anita Hale Shreve was an American novelist and journalist, best known for her bestselling works of fiction that often explored themes of love, loss, and the complexities of human relationships, frequently set against the backdrop of New England. Before becoming a full-time novelist, she worked as a high school teacher and a freelance journalist, including a three-year stint in Kenya. Her 1998 novel, 'The Pilot's Wife', gained international acclaim after being selected for Oprah's Book Club. She passed away in 2018 after a battle with cancer.
