Richard North Patterson (born February 22, 1947) is an American novelist, attorney and political commentator known for legal and political thrillers. A former SEC attorney and trial lawyer, Patterson turned to fiction and has written numerous bestsellers addressing issues such as the law, capital punishment, gun violence, and international affairs. His novels include Degree of Guilt, Protect and Defend, Conviction, No Safe Place and Fall From Grace. He has also written nonfiction and political commentary and remains active as an author and commentator.
