Candace Beebe Pert (June 26, 1946 – September 12, 2013) was an American neuroscientist and pharmacologist who played a key role in the discovery of the opioid (opiate) receptor and was a pioneer in research connecting neuropeptides, the immune system, and emotion. She published extensively in scientific journals, wrote the bestselling popular-science book Molecules of Emotion, and contributed to the emergence of mind–body medicine.
