Sir Walter Scott

Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian. He is best known for pioneering the historical novel with works that blend romanticized history, adventure and detailed depictions of Scottish life. His major novels include Waverley, Rob Roy, The Heart of Midlothian and Ivanhoe. Scott also compiled ballads and wrote influential poetry and historical studies.
