Walter Dean Myers
Walter Dean Myers (August 12, 1937 – July 1, 2014) was an American author best known for his prolific and influential work for children and young adults. Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and raised in Harlem, New York City, he wrote more than 100 books across fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and picture books. Myers often explored the lives of African-American youth, addressing themes such as identity, urban life, and social justice. He served as the U.S. National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature (2012–2013) and advocated widely for diversity in children’s publishing.
