Souvankham Thammavongsa is a Laotian-Canadian poet and short story writer. Born in a Lao refugee camp in Nong Khai, Thailand, she was raised in Toronto. She is the author of four poetry collections and the short story collection How to Pronounce Knife (2020), which won the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the 2021 Trillium Book Award. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's Magazine, The Paris Review, The Atlantic and Granta. She has received an O. Henry Award and other national recognitions.
