Jason Matthews (September 17, 1951 – April 28, 2021) was an American novelist and former CIA operations officer. After a 33-year career in the CIA, during which he served overseas and specialized in covert recruitment and denied-area operations, he published the Red Sparrow spy trilogy beginning with Red Sparrow (2013). His insider knowledge of tradecraft earned critical praise and awards; Red Sparrow was adapted into a major motion picture and won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel.
