Patricia Harman

Patricia Harman, CNM, is an American nurse‑midwife and author best known for memoirs and novels drawing on her decades of midwifery practice and life on rural communes. She worked as a lay midwife and later as a certified nurse‑midwife on the faculties of Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and West Virginia University. Her memoirs include The Blue Cotton Gown and Arms Wide Open; her Hope River novels include The Midwife of Hope River, The Reluctant Midwife, and The Runaway Midwife. She lives near Morgantown, West Virginia.
