Elizabeth Peters
Elizabeth Peters was the pen name of Barbara Mertz, an American author renowned for her historical mystery series, particularly the Amelia Peabody series, which features an Egyptologist in Victorian-era settings. Her work is known for blending mystery with humor, romance, and rich historical detail, often featuring strong, independent female protagonists. Mertz also wrote gothic romance novels under the pseudonym Barbara Michaels. She held a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago and authored non-fiction books on ancient Egypt. Mertz was also a feminist and founded the organization "Malice Domestic" for women mystery writers.
