Iain George Pears (born 8 August 1955) is an English art historian, novelist and journalist. He is best known for his internationally successful historical and literary novels — notably An Instance of the Fingerpost — as well as the Jonathan Argyll series featuring an art-historian detective. Pears trained at Oxford (Wadham College; Wolfson College) and worked as a journalist and foreign correspondent before becoming a full‑time author. His work is noted for experimental narrative structures and for bridging historical fiction, crime and philosophical themes.
