J. Maarten Troost
J. Maarten Troost (born 1969) is a Dutch–American travel writer and essayist best known for humorous travel memoirs about life in the South Pacific and travels in Asia. His notable books include The Sex Lives of Cannibals (2004), Getting Stoned with Savages (2006), Lost on Planet China (2008), and Headhunters on My Doorstep (2013). His essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post and National Geographic Traveler. He was born in Groningen, Netherlands, grew up in Canada, and has lived in the U.S.; he has worked as a World Bank consultant and as a correspondent for The Prague Post.
